There is a captivating background to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is not legal. Eight casinos are established in a relatively tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime spot, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are apparently needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is correct of many borders.
The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship casino, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel building that highlights many comforts aside from the gambling den, which provides ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 tables.
