There is an appealing story to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, in which casino wagering is against the law. Eight casinos are established in a relatively tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship casino, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel complex that contains numerous amenities aside from the casino, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight table games.
